Bewarned Intertech8888 Recruitment is a SCAM!

Modus Operandi: First is the sweet talk, Second is the promise of direct hiring to Australia or elsewhere and Third is to get your money and... poof!

If you get into situations like the ones mentioned above, chances are you're in line to fill up the pockets of unscrupulous individuals at Intertech8888. Read on to find out more about the workings behind one of Cebu's bogus recruitment scams.

The high hopes of having the chance to work abroad for a small fee (15,000 Php to be exact) minus all the recruitment hassles and security measures set by the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) landed my wife and some friends in jeopardy as they fell victim to the sweet tongue of Kirby Silva, owner and CEO of the controversial BPO firm- Intertech8888 that is based in Minglanilla, Cebu who promised them quick employment as "factory workers" for various businesses in Australia.

Just to appease my curiosity and witness the intriguing process, I tagged along during their orientation seminar which was surprisingly set at a residential address and not in the usual corporate conference room.

If I remembered things correctly, it was a certain Evan Ortega who ushered us in on the sweet spots with props ranging from photos of applicants they've managed to send abroad and of course, also their supposed "goody-goody" testimonials too to entice everyone who were present there to set their horses rolling and squeeze the juice of 15, 000 Php out of us- which he said was set at 10,000 Php to cover the placement fee and 5,000 Php for the assessment fee with which we were instructed to anytime when we're "ready" to pay to our coordinators or at the supposed office of Intertech at Springwood, Upper Tulay, Minglanilla, Cebu.

After hearing everything and after doing some background check about the company and certain key personas  online (which to my surprise and suspicion is there isn't a single impression about them in sites, blogs and forums online- and could only mean one thing. It's all a SCAM.) I pointed out what i found out to my wife and advised her not to go ahead but my pleas only fell on deaf ears as she only replied that she and the rest of our friends are all determined to take the risk and is pushing through with the deal...

Making the payment and closing the deal

Much like signing a contract with the devil, they received a call from a certain coordinator with the name of Thelma Beniga who then scheduled a meetup with them at Mc Donald's Jones Branch to get their payments, which they abruptly complied and were given in turn with Official Receipts (confirming my worries) that do not bear a Tax Identification Number (TIN.)

They were then instructed to wait for a few weeks or months for the email which will guide them to their batch and company of assignment, which i later learned that my wife received in just a couple of days and my how fast! and that they will all go on the same batch for a chocolate confectionery known as SCALZO Foods based in Perth, Australia.

After a few months of waiting... The dreaded news broke out that Kirby Silva and some of her cohorts were arrested by the NBI after the agency received several complaints about Intertech's illegal activities which are in violation of Section 6 or R.A. 8402 otherwise known as the Migrant Workers and Filipinos Acts of 1995.

***Read the news reports about their capture:

Duped to sign a waiver that obviously screams Intertech8888 is only guiding them and is "hand washing" from all its responsibilities

Last weekend, my wife got a call that Kirby is asking them to go to her house at a remote part of Minglanilla to settle everything and after seeing through her ordeal, I decided that i should butt in and that we go there to get a refund for all that she paid for. We met up with a friend who's also facing the same dilemma and like us, wants to get a refund so we proceeded right away to find Kirby's place.

What greeted us in the venue were hundreds of people who were also lining up to meet up with Kirby but were only told that they can only get in if they'd sign the waiver form of which after reading, I can clearly define that the company is now changing its terms and that now it is saying that it is merely guiding its recruits (a typical tactic used by scammers to get themselves out of trouble.)

Smelling the fish in the form, i told my wife and some friends who were there at the venue to not sign the waiver and since it was already late we opted to just go home and wait for updates from the others just in case everyone agrees to file a formal complaint or simply just settle in on the refund and forget the whole deal.

I on the other hand, opted to write about our experience with this company and disseminate it online to warn others who, like my wife and friends may fall for their traps and tactics in the future and for various government agencies looking into this kind of employment strategies to be aware of.

As of this writing, we still haven't received any updates from Intertech8888 and lesson learned, everything is going down the drain....

The Benefits of Using a Virtual Terminal for Merchant Website Transactions

It is very important for merchants especially those that own their websites to be able to accept multiple forms of payments such as cash, personal checks, credit cards and of course debit cards. Through the use of virtual terminals, entrepreneurs are now capable of processing credit card payments from any computer provided that it has a secure connection.

Similar to credit card processing terminals found throughout most locations, merchants can swipe cards or key in their numbers in a virtual terminal. To accept swiped credit card payments a merchant must have a card reader plugged directly into their computer’s USB port.

The benefits of using a virtual terminal

a. Compared to a traditional terminal, a virtual terminal can conveniently be accessed from any computer with no additional equipment.

b. Merchants can track and report all credit card transactions that occur in their retail location with the immediate and accurate processing of a virtual terminal.

c. A virtual terminal has helpful features such as monitoring sales for every employee and recurring bills to help merchants with their finances.

d. Most virtual terminals are made to work well under any kind of connection. From dial-up to TCP/IP Internet or TCP /IP leased they can function and work well.

e. Virtual terminals have card reader support, Pin Pad support and check readers as well to check all major credit cards, debit cards, EBT purchasing cards, gift cards and they can also check verifications.
Enterprises that can greatly enjoy these benefits

Provided merchants operate from an office or small contact center, using a virtual terminal is always the best option.

Businesses that use mail order or telephone ordering services and smaller nonprofit companies can also benefit by using a virtual terminal for their transactions. Small retail locations such as a jewelry shop, furniture store and other specialty shops are also in the lineup.

There are several companies that offer virtual terminal systems online. Most of these systems are offered on prepackaged merchant accounts or with a third-party processor combo. Some companies also provide a virtual terminal that plugs right to a smart phone for the added convenience of doing business 24/7 anywhere in the world.

Truly, the use of a virtual terminal can lend the best benefits for merchants, business owners and non-profits alike.

If you are a business owner who is on the hunt for the best virtual systems provider to help your enterprise succeed, look no farther than Halo Merchant Services ( to offer you the right merchant processing solution tailored fit for your needs at your price. Visit their website and discover the total advantage in all your merchant processing needs today.

Junjun Davide and Agnes Magpale tandem- It's about time we heed the call and elect new faces with new ideals to lead Cebu's Capitol

Just sharing my take for the nearing May polls. I've  been researching about my bets and I was certainly impressed by these two "extra-ordinaries" whom I trust (and I'm sure a lot of heads will nod) will bring the changes in government that we Cebuanos have been longing for with our Public officials and all public offices in general.

They both possess the will, zeal and capability to run the Province and I am one with their cause. The Capitol is the epicenter of it all. If we want change, then this place would be a great catalyst and spring board for new ideals that the entire Province of Cebu will rely its fate upon.

Furthermore, Junjun Davide and Agnes Magpale have gained the honor of being the President's chosen roster worthy to head Cebu's lot. If that's not enough to convince the skeptic in you then it's about time for you netizens to simply click a search engine or two, check out what's happening in Cebu and get to know these candidates (or your bets) better.

Enough said. If you happened to agree with me, pay their official website a visit @ sign up and become a member today!

“I believe I can be a worthy occupant of the Governor.  I believe that the office of the governor is a public trust and the Constitution requires its holder to be accountable to the people at all times.  To serve them with utmost responsibility, efficiency, loyalty and integrity.  To act with patriotism and justice and to live a modest life.”

Kalanggaman Island- Underwater and Reef Shots

Recently, I went with some friends and explored Kalanggaman Island off the coast of Palompon Leyte, and Northern Cebu, Philippines.

Figured this is a good take to share with you some underwater footages on Youtube below consisting of teeming aquatic life, tame fishes and untouched coral reef all in bright clear waters.

At just waist deep of water off the island's coast, one could just simply while the time away snorkeling and watch magnificent life underwater.  To get these great shots, we just used regular underwater cameras and had an excellent time clicking our way through. Enjoy!

A call to modernize the Armed Forces of the Philippines and restore national pride

Though the truth hurts that we’re lagging behind our Asian neighbors in terms of military technology and might, it’s never too late to wake up and heed the call to boost our armed forces. As history witnessed- the Spanish and American colonization, World War II, Korean War, UN Peacekeeping missions and the ongoing Communist, Terrorists and Moro Insurgencies. The Filipino soldier’s bravery and tactical knowledge was and will never be in question.

But as time passes, we’ve seen enough mishaps and obvious circumstances wherein we can conclude that given something more, our armed forces (Navy, Army, Air force) could’ve easily crushed the state’s enemy within a much shorter time frame.

We need to let the ideal sink in that we are now in the modern world and so goes with it, new armament and equipment to better be at pace with modern warfare. I say why don’t we tap on local resources (Like the defunct Santa Barbara Rocket, Defiant 500, Hari Digma and the recently successful Kalakian Armored Personnel Carrier) as it’s been quite proven that we have great inventors here who can do more at a fraction of the cost than buying what we need abroad. Hey, we have gunsmiths, engineers and technicians which, given adequate government support can very well come up with great products that’s at par or even surpass international standards!

Going local generates more jobs that we badly need right now plus, we could be proud with ourselves knowing that we have developed and used something that’s truly ours.

The current intrusion and “bullying” of China in what is clearly our territorial waters will hopefully serve as a wake up call for us to unite, set aside our differences, stop the corruption and internal strife and focus more on building a more capable military posture as external threat and foreign aggression is clearly imminent.

We cannot just rely on the US to help us in the time of need as we have dumped the means to do so. The US bases were stationed here to check on would be aggressors…Nevertheless, It’s about time we look up to the Commander in Chief and the brave men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and support their every undertaking. Mabuhay!

Avengers - One totally cool initiative!

Being an avid fan of the Avengers in the comic books and cartoons, I was skeptical and excited at the same time as to how the movie will turn up. And It turn up I got more than what I expected for the movie was- thanks to one great director and an all-star cast, one hell of a beautiful mess!

Dragging along Richelle my partner in crime, we opted to spend our Labor Day date and watch the movie at the best theaters in town- SM Cinemas at SM City Cebu and man the place was jammed with people all eager to get in! We had no choice but to wait for our turn in what seemed to me like an endless line but after quite a few agonizing minutes, we managed to slip through the gate and found a seat at the premiere section.

Watching the movie, I was impressed at the plot which comes quite far from mediocre as with most superhero movies (especially if you’re a comic book fan) the plot did not strayed much from its comic grassroots and it has all the right mixture of thrill, action and most importantly, strong humor hence, the occasional laughter from the audience can be heard amidst dolby surround speakers!

Let me give you some tidbits on the movie and a peek at the characters:

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson)

The Director of International peacekeeping agency- S.H.I.E.L.D. who’s previously seen at the end of the character movies (Captain America, Ironman and Thor) as the one who is recruiting them all for what he calls as the “Avenger Initiative.” In the movie this time, he takes the lead as the core of all the action now greatly involves his agency, Helicarrier, people, resources and that the fate of the world lies in the hands of the team he strongly believes in.

Tony Stark / Ironman (Robert Downey Jr.)

The infamous genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist with a state of the art mechanical suit of armor. His life took a 360 degree turn as he finally learns to cope up with leadership ties from being a sole operator, to finally getting along with the team members especially their leader, Captain America.

Steve Rogers / Captain America (Chris Evans)

Best loved World War II super soldier, who was endowed with superhuman abilities and physicality by an experimental serum. Steve Rogers this time will come to terms with himself after waking up in the modern world and will finally get the message of selflessness, heroism and teamwork through Tony Stark’s armor.

Thor – Norse God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth)

Is the enigmatic and very powerful Asgardian thunder god who possesses the mystical hammer Mjolnir and earth’s self- proclaimed protector. This time he is tasked by Asgard to go to Earth to retrieve the Tesseract- a cube with immense energy and bring his brother Loki – Norse God of mischief back to their realm for persecution. He crossed paths with the team after a failed attempt to free Loki and gets into a melee as he was confronted by Ironman and Captain America. He later agreed to join the team as he sees the impending peril which will fall on earth as a result of his brother’s folly.

Dr. Bruce Banner / The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)

A noted scientist, who became the Incredible Hulk after he was exposed to gamma radiation. He is quite unstoppable in his monstrous state, which is ignited whenever he feels a sudden surge of emotion such as rage or excitement. In the movie, The Hulk comes as quite the focus as he gets into friction with other members and eventually gets to come to his senses to aid them in battle…abruptly focusing his “smashing” rage on the enemy… the result of which is you don’t want to be at their side when that happens.

Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson)

A highly trained operative of S.H.I.E.L.D. that holds an ace up her sleeve for combat skills, espionage and the likes, hidden behind a beautiful face. In this movie, she is depicted as the love interest of Hawkeye, who at first became a minion of Loki but was freed by her after a fierce fight. Together, they make up the non-superhero component of the Avengers.

Clint Barton / Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner)

Known as the World’s Greatest Marksman, archer and master assassin, this S.H.I.E.L.D. operative certainly packs the gauntlet even with eyes closed. In the movie, he first became a minion of Loki and ran several missions for him including the attack on a German facility and later stormed the Helicarrier to free him. After a confrontation with the Black Widow, he was freed from Loki’s incantation just in time as the team’s about to take Loki and his invading army head on.

Loki- Norse God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston)

Thor’s brother and nemesis with the power to influence minds. Being the movie’s main antagonist (depicted in the character movie Thor) he is always scheming on ways to get even with his brother and rule everything he sets his eyes upon. In his exile, he comes in contact with a warring alien race known as the Chitauri and their tyrant ruler- The Other, makes a pact with him and sets about his plans to rule Earth, manipulate the Tesseract and eventually try to subdue the Avengers.

Now I’ll just stop digging the theatrics further to avoid a great spoil and just leave you to watch the movie. Trust me it’s definitely worth your every buck.

Something more- one soothing relief from greeks bearing gifts

Heard this one on the radio last weekend and figured to share it. Here's the chart topping song Something more from Secondhand Serenade.

With their more upbeat album "Hear me out now" released early this year, John Vesely and the guys is slowly ripping up the airwaves worldwide and gaining 2 thumbs up from sound critics everywhere!

The lyrics packs the punch and the beat is somewhat refreshing to the ears. Tune in to the  audio  stream below from and you'll be enthralled  to one new experience. Enjoy!

Something More
Secondhand Serenade

I lie awake again, my bodies feeling paralysed
I can’t remember when
I didn’t live through this disguise
The words you said to me
They couldn’t set me free

I'm stuck here in this life i didn’t ask for
There must be something more,
Do we know what we’re fighting for?
Breathe in breathe out

And all these masks we wore
We never knew what we had in store
Breathe in breathe out

The storm is rolling in
The thunders loud it hurts my ears

Im paying for my sins
And its gunna rain for years and years

I fooled everyone and now what will i become?
I have to start this over
I have to start this over

There must be something more,
Do we know what we’re fighting for?
Breathe in breathe out

And all these masks we wore
We never knew what we had in store
Breathe in breathe out

I fooled everyone and now what will i become?
I have to start this over
I have to start this over

There must be something more,
Do we know what we’re fighting for?
Breathe in breathe out

And all these masks we wore
We never knew what we had in store
Breathe in breathe out
There must be something more
Breathe in breathe out
There must be something more

A courier service nightmare

How sure are you of your courier service? A friend of mine was recently caught up with a fiasco with WWW Express- the local affiliate of renowned international courier and logistics provider, DHL Worldwide Express in the Philippines. She was surprised as to how the company dealt with her problem as she was confident with the thought that with DHL’s good reputation in the industry, her parcel will arrive at the destination quickly and well taken cared of.

A lost parcel in transit + bad customer support = A customer’s nightmare

It turned out her fears were brought to life as her parcel containing a Nokia N-series N93 cell phone which she intended to send to her brother in Metro Manila went lost while in transit.

The said item was sent last May 10 but she was informed that her parcel was lost on the 17th?! For reasons there was no way bill number as parcel was not scanned, possibly by one of the staff which may have had a personal interest on the item.

As the story went, my friend called up the said company to follow up her complaint but was met only with words from the staff that only their supervisor is the one that can help her out with her problem. Despite constant follow ups, she was told that she will only receive one email feedback per day as the establishment practices a ‘black and white’ policy. In one of her follow ups, she was even told by the manager that their system was down; hence he failed to update her on the problem.

In a further follow up, she was led on a ping-pong trail as the WWW Express Manila branch claims that the said item was lost in Cebu, while the Cebu branch on the other hand, claims the item was lost in Manila or in transit at the airline. Until now, she still hasn’t received an incident report so she’s still clueless as to what happened to her item.

After a consultation with her family, she made a decision to have the liable company replace the said item instead. Her offer was met with positive response as the manager she talked with gave her assurance that they will replace the said item. However in recent follow ups she was told that the company will not replace the said item but will instead pay her 8,000 Php as this was only the insured amount for her damage claim. Naturally she refused for the market value of her Nokia N93 costs around15,000 to 16,000 Php.

Until the time of this write up, she still hasn’t received a positive result to her problem which led her to resort to blogging in the hope that the proper authorities at WWW Express or DHL will get to see her complaint and shed light on the matter. Somewhere along the lines, there is clearly a system or personnel flaw here that needs to be addressed right away to prevent untoward cases such as hers from happening again to anyone.

The day has come indeed for Hassidic Jewish Reggae: Matisyahu

Heard Matisyahu featuring Akon- One Day playing on the radio, while dozing off my hot Sunday afternoon by the seafront and man my ears perked up to this new sound, which seemed to me was a combination of reggae, a pint of electronica/ hip-hop on an enhanced no woman, no cry format. The blend of beats is quite catchy and the lyrics come poetic.

I've learned that this was the soundtrack of the 2010 Winter Olympics in V
ancouver that put the limelight on Matisyahu to an even broader audience with positive respond.

Figured to do a backgroun
d check to get a glimpse of the artist and I was kind of surprised to have come across Matisyahu and the new line of genre he represents - which is Hassidic Jewish Reggae by the way or the blending of traditional Jewish themes with that of reggae beats. (Ever seen a Rabbi-looking guy groove?) Matisyahu embraced his music but incorporated his forte- adding hip-hop and rock, raising his music a notch higher.

As I got hold of his Album 'Light' off from his 2009 release, I felt a bit awkward of his other songs but eventually my ears inched a liking to the chill outs: We will walk, Eccentric beat lined- Escape, Motivate and Thunder to name a few.

Treat your ears to an exotic experience! Tick the Youtube video below for Matisyahu ft. Akon's One Day or simply listen to this blog's mixpod, it's already on.

Hoobastank- Still remains to be the question

Figured to share this post- a really cool one from Hoobastank- Running away. Check out the hard hittin' lyrics and ice cool video below. Cheers for the taking!

Running Away

I don't want you to give it all up
And leave your own life collecting dust
And I don't want you to feel sorry for me
You never gave us a chance to be
And I don't need you to be by my side
To tell me that everything's alright
I just wanted you to tell me the truth
You know I'd do that for you

So why are you running away?
Why are you running away?

Cause I did enough to show you that I
Was willing to give and sacrifice
And I was the one who was lifting you up
When you thought your life had had enough
And when I get close, you turn away
There's nothing that I can do or say
So now I need you to tell me the truth
You know I'd do that for you

So why are you running away?
Why are you running away?

Is it me, is it you
Nothing that I can do
To make you change your mind
Is it me, is it you
Nothing that I can do
Is it a waste of time?
Is it me, is it you
Nothing that I can do
To make you change your mind

So why are you running away?
Why are you running away?
...What is it I've got to say...

So why are you running away?
...To make you admit you're afraid...
Why are you running away?

Maguindanao Massacre- Proof of clamped press freedom in the Philippines

I'd like to convey my respects to the brave men and women from the media- who has to sadly lose their lives in seek of truth in a political turmoil that has blown out of proportions. The 30 who were not only killed but butchered on a hillside road in Ampatuan, Maguindanao is another eye opener of the worsening situation here in the Philippines- Jesus Christ we have capped off Iraq and earned the reputation as the most dangerous country on earth for journalists!

For the nth time, media practioners should not be entwined with agendas and must not be harmed for they are the "chroniclers". A hapless event such as this must not go about off the hook because it clearly defines that the country (as with the past killings) is now run with powerful hoodlums in robes; whom will never stop silencing media critics, SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT...

This blow to Press Freedom in the country brings the tally to 134 deaths of media men murdered since the tug of war for democracy in 1986 with a lot of cases still unsolved; with deaths blamed on political warlords who control the police and the justice arm within their realms- all hell bent to preserve their seats and are useful for political patrons as they bring in "the votes" for political parties. In the Arroyo administration alone, the number is already 74 and rising...?

When news broke out of the massacre- the whole world was virtually shocked and a lot of protests and condemnations issued, candles lit and protest rallies staged in honor of the lives lost in what's been dubbed as the worst attack in the world against media practitioners.
